Located at Red-tailed Hawk Park in Aurora
On Saturday, August 24, 2019, the community gathered for the ceremonial grand opening of a public inclusive playground designed for all ages and abilities at Red-tailed Hawk Park in Aurora. The celebratory event featured music, food, activities, and the unveiling of the playground. The playground area features a sensory garden, play equipment, musical instruments, and a gathering space.
A few years ago, the Make-a-Wish Foundation contacted the City of Aurora about a child’s wish for an inclusive playground. The child who inspired this project is Ashaun, who lives near the park and uses a wheelchair. Thanks to donations from community partners, the Make-a-Wish Foundation, and Developmental Pathways’ Community Outreach department, the community built an inclusive, unique, purposeful, interactive playground for children of all ages and abilities to play side-by-side.
